“This photo is of the display that we did at our local Health Centre in Coatbridge, where most of the District Nurses and their students showed great interest in all the literature, and they all took a selection of the information leaflets away with them. They were all asking about the AA as most of them did not know about it or about STARS. We also had posters and leaflets in the local chemists, the library, the Arts Centres and I even put a display in the Reception at the holiday park where we have our static caravan in Dunoon”

7 members of the Grown Up Congenital Heart Patients Association (GUCH PA) walked along Hadrian’s Wall to raise awareness of arrhythmias. Between them walked over 500 miles, with 3 completing the entire walk, 2 having to leave for other commitments (though one came back and did 70 miles in total), all did over 50 miles and there were no major problems. The walk was stunningly beautiful, even when walking in 3 days of met office weather warnings and when we did need to use our plans (because someone's feet were tired they worked like a treat).

The Dudley Group of Health Libraries did a fantastic job in promoting arrhythmia awareness week.

The idea of promoting Arrhythmia Alliance’s (AA) Arrhythmia Awareness Week at Dudley Health Libraries arose out of a wider strategy to make evidence based electronic information resources more widely known to and used by our respective readerships. These include NHS staff and students in both the acute and primary care settings. The Specialist Libraries (SLs) available through the National Library for Health are a major subject of these, but we look to calendar based events to schedule individual promotional campaigns. Such events can be held close to or around a national conference in the topic. Another tactic is to associate them with the SLs’ National Knowledge Weeks. In the case of the Cardiovascular Diseases Specialist Library (CVDSL), its partnership with AA meant that the AAW was the obvious analogous choice.

Hannah has suffered RAS since aged 7. She is now 10. She is keen to help promote awareness and understanding of the condition for the benefit of other RAS sufferers and has written her own case study for the STARS Education website, so this is now available on line.

From Kim Bennet, Resuscitation Officer, Essex Rivers Healthcare NHS Trust:

“May I just say how much we enjoyed participating in Arrhythmia Awareness week here in Colchester.

We had a display in the main entrance of the hospital which attracted a good deal of interest boosted perhaps by the offer of a free pulse check for anyone requesting it from myself or some of the Cardiac nurses who 'manned' the stand. In fact, we referred 4 people to their GP's as we felt they had a rhythm disturbance and counselled several others with a variety of cardiac problems of their own or within their family.

Along side this we ran a competition which had a couple of hundred entries to 'get with the beat' - name your favourite song with heart or beat or rhythm in the title and offered some small prizes to those drawn out. I was serenaded a couple of times by people (it was just like X Factor!) as they tried to get to the title of the song they were thinking of.

We gave away most of the information you sent us and I've distributed the rest to the relevant departments. “
